Who is Andrew Mellon?

I am a liberty-loving recent graduate of Columbia University (oxymoronic though that may be).  Writing deep behind enemy lines, I cover issues political, social and economic with a Classical Liberal bent.  I worked on my first campaign when I was five-years-old and I have been fighting to return the country to its founding principles ever since.

Also, Andrew Mellon is not my real name.  He did however lead a fascinating life as an industrialist, banker and Secretary of the Treasury.

Dear Andy: As a retired professor of English I can attest to the Leftist, shall we say, ‘takeover’ of the colleges and universities. Having assumed control over the student loan program–with the one execption of a major local bank in Bismarck, ND–the Left will have all future generations in their grip. D. H. Stefanson

My beloved granddaughter is a freshman at Columbia. Any suggestions on what I can insinuate subtly to her to be involve with on campus to expose her to ‘founding principles’ that made this country great. She’s undeclared major, not politically intune and do not have the personality to be a community organizer. Any tip will be greatly appreciated.

Ate mely. My response is that you won’t learn about the Founding Fathers at this school. The curriculum gives you exposure to some of their predecessors that informed their views on the world (Plato, Aristotle, Burke, Locke, Hobbes), but the best way to learn is to read what the Founders actually themselves said, in addition to the works of the Austrian economists, Frederic Bastiat, Ayn Rand, George Gilder, Milton Friedman, etc. I would read works across the entire spectrum of what I would broadly call individualism (though some people are more collectivist than others here) in order to form a broad world view.

funny, but i thought you hijacked my wall street journal avatar…….the $20 gold certificate……..but i checked your serial# ( starts with ‘A’ ) so you can use it with impunity. By the way, my good friend and colleague across the street, Alex Mellon Eaton MD, is the great-great grandson of Sen. Mellon

Carry on and check my posts under ‘gellero’ on many sites.

I loved your post on Everybody Draw Muhammad Day. I started a Facebook group you might like:

*Change Your Profile Pic Until Comedy Central Airs Episode 201 Uncensored*
I encourage fans of free speech to take a stand. Change your profile pic to the already-aired South Park depiction of Muhammad (easily found with a Google search) until Comedy Central agrees to re-air episode “201” uncensored. Send a message to terrorism: YOUR INTOLERANCE IS IGNORANT.
